Our Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner gives evidence...

On Tuesday the 30th May 2017 the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade held a public inquiry on "Adopting a Modern Slavery Act in Australia".

The members in attendance included: Senators Fawcett, Ludlam, Reynolds, Singh and Ms Claydon, Mr Crewther, Mr Craig Kelly, Ms Madeleine King, Mrs Sudmalis.

Our Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner Kevin Hyland OBE was invited to give evidence based on the learning from the UK legislation, the Modern Slavery Act of 2015. When asked about available supporting data, TISCreport.org was mentioned as one of the available sources. Our own submission with recommendations based on our growing data set is still being considered and we will be notified in due course of any further questions they might have. Needless to say we wholly support the creation of an Australian Modern Slavery Act and look forward to playing our part in due course.
